Schema description / Schemenbeschreibung
Position of electrificationChange in the XML-Tree / Position von electrificationChange im XML-Baum
- Parent: <electrificationChanges>
- Children: <additionalName> (introduced with version 2.1), <any>, <geoCoord>, <states>, <maxTrainCurrent> (introduced with version 2.4)
Multiplicity / Anzahl
Semantics / Bedeutung
A <electrificationChange> defines a position in track in which the type of electrification changes. The structure is optional, as not all tracks are electrified. If used, there is arespective <electrificationChange>-element at the begin, at changes and at the end of the electrification.
Attributes of electrificationChange / Attribute von electrificationChange
- id: XML-file-wide unique, machine-interpretable identity, required for later referencing that element internally. For a detailed explanation see Dev:identities.
- code (introduced with version 2.1): Machine-interpretable string (e.g. an abbreviation) used for identification of the object across exchange partners, usecase specific uniqueness constraints may apply. Please see our description of the differences between id, code and human-readable identifiers.
Maschineninterpretierbare Zeichenkette (z.B. - name: Established, human-readable short string, giving the object a name. Not intended for machine interpretation, please see our notice on human interpretable data fields.
- description: Human-readable, more detailed description as addition to the name. It should give additional explanations or hints to the contents of this element. Not intended for machine interpretation, please see our notice on human interpretable data fields.
- xml:lang (introduced with version 2.1): This is a unique identifier of language. It uses basically the language standard IETF BCP 47 (external link) which may be different to ISO 639-1 (external link) or ISO 639-2 (external link). For mapping hints see relation to other standards (external link).
This defines the language used for name and description. Use Template:Ra:Tag to provide a name and/or description in other languages.
- pos: This is the position on a track defined as distance from its start (trackBegin) regardless the "absolute mileage" in @absPos.
|
- absPos: This is the position on a track as absolute mileage/chainage.
|
- absPosOffset (deprecated with version 2.1): The semantics of this attribute aren't very clear. It seems to be redundant to the definitions with mileageChanges in "overlapping regions".
- dir: (deprecated with version 2.5) This defines the validity of <electrificationChange> along the track. Possible values are:
- up This denotes the direction from the <trackBegin> to the <trackEnd> (increasing relative position values).
- down This goes opposite to up (decreasing relative position values).
- type Possible values are:
- none: Non-electrified track requiring vehicles with independent self-contained propulsion [1]
- overhead: This is a catenary.
- 3rdRail: Third rail (); this is a conductor placed along or between the rails. For example, it is used by Network Rail ().
- sideRail: This is a rail for power supply conducted by pick-up shoe. For example, it is used by Berlin S-Bahn ().
- other:anything: Any value that does not fit any value from the previous enumeration list, fulfilling the constraint: at minimum two characters, whitespace is not allowed. Please, apply Dev:usingAny accordingly.
- voltage Contact line voltage in volts [2]
- frequency: This is the frequency in Hertz of a track circuit. For DC track circuits this shall be set to zero. Omitting this value shall be interpreted as not applicable [3].
- vMax
- isolatedSection fishplate joint, which may be glued, ensuring insulation of a rail with respect to the adjacent rail. Definition source is IEC 60050:821-03-16.
Syntactic Constraints / Syntaktische Beschränkungen

- isolatedSection: xs:boolean; default: false; optional
Best practice & Examples / Empfohlene Anwendung & Beispiele
Consider railMLÂŽ 2.3 example of Middle Rhine Railway by GPSinfradat (link to the railMLÂŽ website).
This code example defines <electrificationChange> of the track adjacent to Bft Bingen (Rhein) Vorbahnhof station.
<electrificationChanges> <electrificationChange id="ec263011" dir="up" pos="0" type="overhead" absPos="91050" voltage="15000" frequency="16.7"/> </electrificationChanges>
Consider railMLÂŽ 2.2 example of East Saxony railway network by FBS (link to the railMLÂŽ website).
This code example defines <electrificationChange> of Pennrich Gleisschleife - Karl-Marx-StraĂe track.
<electrificationChanges> <electrificationChange id='elc_229_6606_DVB.PEN-DVB.DK_W_Sa_2_0' pos='0' absPos='0' dir='up' type='overhead' voltage='600'/> </electrificationChanges>
Notes / Anmerkungen
- Default values of type, voltage and frequency:
The user shall not rely on these default values as they might be misleading, i.e. in case the information is needed it shall be explicitely given. - As there is no simple value yes forseen for attribute type it is necessary to select the right value for it whenever the other specific attributes are used.
Hint: The electrification data are normally long term values, i.e. they are not subject to frequent changes. Thus these basic data (type, voltage, frequency) are in most cases well known for a particular location.
General information on positioning
Positive pos values describe the distance from the track's begin. The track length is derived from the pos value in <trackEnd>.
The absolute mileage refered to by absPos is usually found on technical drawings of the track layout or on mileage posts next to the track.
