Semantics / Bedeutung

The element <mechanicalCoupler> contains all data related to the mechanical coupling devices (external link) used between the railway vehicles.

Das Element <mechanicalCoupler> beinhaltet alle Daten für alle mechanischen Kupplungen zwischen den einzelnen Fahrzeugen.

Attributes of mechanicalCoupler / Attribute von mechanicalCoupler

  • designType: This is the design type of the coupler. There is a list of typical values available.
  • AAR_KnuckleCoupler The standard coupler as used by the north American railways (Association of American Railroads). It is also known as "Janney coupler".

  • AlbertCoupler coupler used at tram cars
  • APTA_tightlock automatic coupler of American Public Transportation Association used for passenger trains, i.e with reduced slack
  • BSI_compact tram couplers by BSI
  • BSI_shunting automatic couplers for shunting purpose by BSI
  • buckeyeKnuckleCoupler central Buckeye automatic knuckle coupler as used by British locomotive-hauled passenger carriages
  • BuddPinCup automatic coupler for EMUs developed by Budd Company
  • buffersChainScrewCoupler The standard coupler as used by most European railways.
  • C-AKv compact willison coupler developed by Faiveley Transport compatible by SA-3 and willison couplers
  • centralBuffer1Chain single central buffer with a chain underneath as used by some narrow gauge railways in Europe

  • linkPin_flat tram coupler with flat link bar and pins
  • linkPin_round tram coupler with round link bar and pins
  • NorwegianMeatChopper central buffer with a mechanical hook that drops into a slot in the central buffer, mainly used by narrow gauge railways
  • SA3_WillisonCoupler coupler as used by railways of former Soviet Union, works according to the same principles as the AAR coupler but is incompatible
  • Scharfenberg general couplers of Scharfenberg type

  • other:anything: Any value that does not fit any value from the previous enumeration list, fulfilling the constraint: at minimum two characters, whitespace is not allowed. Please, apply Dev:usingAny accordingly.
    any other user defined type
  • positionOnCarEnd: This is the basic position of the coupler with regard to the car ends. Possible values are:
  • both The railway wagon has two couplers. One of them is placed on the front side of the railway wagon. Other one is placed on the rear side of the railway wagon.
  • front The railway wagon has one coupler placed on the front side.
  • rearThe railway wagon has one coupler placed on the rear side.
  • couplingHeight: This is the coupler height (horizontal axis) above rail surface given in metres.
  • pullingForce: This is maximum force in Newton the coupler can withstand when pulling the vehicle.
  • pushingForce: This is maximum force in Newton the coupler can withstand when pushing the vehicle.

Syntactic Constraints / Syntaktische Beschränkungen

  • designType mandatory
  • positionOnCarEnd mandatory
  • couplingHeight xs:decimal, 6 fraction digits, length value measured in meter, optional
  • pullingForce xs:decimal, 0 fraction digits, force value measured in Newton, optional
